Instructional System Design

At EGLS, we are first and foremost Instructional System Designers.

This means we focus on the overall design of your learning solution and assess its impact on workplace performance. We are especially interested in the transfer of knowledge from training to the workplace and are constantly seeking new ideas and models to integrate learning with the workflow. In every training project, our goal is to obtain a significant change in behaviour that leads to improved job performance.

Training should be considered one of the many approaches to sustaining organisational performance.

Sometimes the best solution is a simple one. Instead of developing a formal training program, it may be sufficient to provide job-aids, better documentation, corporate communication tools, or on-the-job coaching. As Instructional Designers, we tell you about it! We consider the requirements and evaluate the factors that impact workplace performance in order to design an efficient learning solution that meets your requirements.

What is instructional design?

In today’s competitive environment, your employees need to adapt to ever-changing demands. Most likely, the situations presented in training are not identical to the situations they will encounter on the job; as such, employees should be prepared to use their judgement if there is no single approach that can address all situations. As the complexity of the task increases, the required skill and knowledge becomes even more difficult to capture.

By applying techniques from instructional design, we ensure that proven learning strategies are incorporated into your training program. For example, to grapple with complexity, employees should be presented with a variety of perspectives and experiences in different contexts. This allows them to appreciate the subtlety of ill-defined knowledge and prepares them for each unique situation. Mini-cases and scenarios provide this variety of perspective, which is why we often incorporate them in our learning solution.
